Benefits of the All-on-4 Implant-Supported Denture Treatment
In 1998, Nobel Biocare, a world leader in dental technology, developed the All-on-4 dental implant treatment. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have elected to get All-on-4 dental implant therapy because it is less invasive than other procedures and keeps dentures from slipping.
Traditional dental implant surgery often requires repeat visits to your dental office for bone grafts that build up the jawbone so it can support the implants. In most cases, people don’t require bone grafts for the All-on-4 treatment. Because of this, patients heal more quickly and are able to enjoy the comfort and natural appearance of their permanent dentures supported by All-on-4 dental implants sooner. Patients leave their implant-placement appointment with a temporary denture; or in some cases, they can have their denture permanently placed. Yes, that’s is called “teeth-in-a-day.”
And, because the All-on-4 dental implant treatment requires fewer implants and less-invasive surgery to accomplish its goal, it is typically less costly than traditional implant surgery.
How the All-on-4 Treatment Procedure Works
All-on-4 dental implant therapy uses four dental implants to permanently attach a complete denture or bridge; both terms mean a row of prosthetic upper or lower teeth.
After you’ve been comfortably sedated, the dentist will place two small titanium posts directly into the jawbone in the front of your mouth and two more titanium posts tilted at a 45-degree angle in the back. The angle allows the dentist to place the implants deeper into the jawbone than is possible with traditional implants. As a result, bone grafts that often accompany traditional dental implant surgery aren’t necessary.
Because titanium is compatible with human bone, the jawbone will fuse around the implants in a few months, firmly locking your implants into place. After the All-on-4 dental implants have fused with the jawbone, they are topped by a permanent bridge or denture, custom-made to match the shape and shade of your original teeth. Your friends won’t know the difference between your dentures supported by All-on-4 dental implants and real teeth.
In addition to providing permanent support for a complete row of teeth, your All-on-4 dental implants also will prevent further deterioration of the jawbone that naturally occurs when it no longer has roots of teeth supporting it. This deterioration of bone can give denture wearers a gaunt appearance. With All-on-4 dental implants, your face retains its proper proportions, reduces wrinkles, and gives you a natural, beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.
